Scar’s and Tella’s passionate will-they-or-won’t-they relationships with love interests are still (at times, inexplicably) compelling, taking up a good half of the plot and balancing out the large-scale power games with more domestic ones. As the Fates begin to throw Valenda into chaos and disarray, the sisters must decide whom him to trust, whom to love, and how to set themselves free. However, Legend also released the rest of the Fates, and, much to their dismay, the Fallen Star-essentially the ur-Fate-is only gaining in power. The Fates are heartless and cruel, which shows in their behavior in the book.Picking up just after the end of Legendary (2018), Garber continues to build the world of Caraval with a final installment, this time focusing equally on both Dragna sisters’ perspectives.Īfter they released their long-missing mother from the Deck of Destiny, Scarlett and Donatella hoped to rebuild their relationship and gain a new sense of family. There are many scenes of peril, and violence is more intense than in the previous books. Sexual content involves several scenes of quite intense kissing and making out and the possibility of things going farther but stopping. Rated: Moderate. There is essentially no bad language.

I did think the resolution was a bit rushed and tied up in a bow more quickly than seemed organic, but that’s a small issue I enjoyed it thoroughly just the same. This book is just as magical and transporting as the previous two, and I gobbled it right up within a few days. The main questions in this book are these: Will sisters Scarlett and Tella be able to have relationships with the brothers they both love? And will they be able to find ways to help Legend defeat the Fates? Legend has positioned himself as the late empress’s heir, but even his power pales next to what the Fates can do - and they are capricious at best and cruel and murderous at worst. They must be defeated so they don’t control the empire previously ruled by the Empress Elantine. Now, the stakes are higher because the release of the dangerous Fates is not a game.

Two games have been dazzlingly put on by the magical Legend, with each sister winning a game. However, Tella, as the love interest of the elusive, mysterious and powerful Legend, still dominates the story. Throughout this Finale, both get turns to share their points of view. Her sister Donatella was the focus of the second. Scarlett Dragna was the focus of the first Caraval book and Caraval game. The previous two books were so enthralling and transporting (and so loanable to family members and friends) that I had to have a copy of the final book in the series immediately. This is one of the few books I have bought sight unseen, and not just bought a hardcover copy of, but preordered from Amazon so it would arrive in my mailbox on the day of publication.
